Editorial Policy & How We Make Money

Why This Page Exists

Short version: trust is earned. This page tells you how this site keeps the lights on and how we keep the advice clean. No fluff, no corporate marketing speak—just straight talk.

How We Make Money

We earn money two ways:

  • Low-cost ebooks: Plain-English guides written by a submariner. No upsells, no gimmicks.
  • Affiliate links: If you buy something through a link here, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra.

Required disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Here’s the line you care about: if something’s junk, we’ll say it’s junk. We do not recommend gear, services, or books because someone paid us—we recommend them because they help veterans win claims.

Editorial Policy

  • Independence: No pay-to-play, no sponsored rankings. Money doesn’t buy a recommendation here.
  • Sources: We lean on official VA rules (CFR/USC), the VA’s own manuals/guidance, rate tables, and real-world claim experience.
  • Plain English: If we can’t say it like we would to a shipmate, we rewrite it.
  • No gatekeeping: We share what works. If you can do it yourself, we tell you how.

Conflicts & Integrity

  • Freebies/sponsorships: If we ever accept one, you’ll see a clear label. It doesn’t buy a good review.
  • No pay-to-post: We don’t sell placements or “editorial packages.”
  • Your data: We don’t sell your info. Period.

Corrections & Updates

If we miss something or VA rules change, we fix it fast. Tell us what’s off and we’ll sort it. We keep a machine-readable dateModified in the page’s schema so search engines know when content changes—no distracting “last updated” banner.
